Young riders aged between 12 and 17 are eligible to enter the Novice test at the Adelaide Royal Show. The leading rider in the Novice Class is awarded the ‘Helen Junge Memorial Perpetual Trophy’ and receives an inscribed riding whip donated by the Dressage Club of South Australia. This prize can only be won once by any rider and is a prestigious award for juniors to win. Stud Open Day On Sat the 12th November, we held our first ever Stud Open Day (followed by a Picnic lunch). This was a very successful day with the group that attended. They had the opportunity to see Splashdance show off his movement in the round yard, observe how we handle our foals and learn how we start a young horse being led from a ridden horse. Photos are available on our photo gallery page. Horizons Photography (Megan Poser) took some photos of the day, which are on her facebook page. Peter Gower took the photos of Sunstream being led from Jive. |
![]() Nuniong Beebie foaled a taffy filly on 16 Sept. We have named her Chalani Sangria, after the red spanish cocktail. We expect she will mature about 15.2hh and will be retained by the stud. Chalani Paper Lace foaled a bay filly on 8 Oct. She has a 'lookalike' blaze to her mother (foal photo of Paper Lace on our logo). Very leggy and super pretty, she has been named Chalani Chiffon. Both foals are by Splashdance. More photos to come. ![]() |

![]() The young stallion Chalani Playwright, aka 'Player', has been consistently winning at ASH shows in Victoria. After winning at Melbourne Royal, Melbourne Summer Royal and Barastoc Horse of the Year under saddle, he has taken out the 3yo ASH Futurity at the Victorian State Championships. At this show he was 1st in his led, won the Futurity (9 entries), 1st Newcomer Final, Champion Junior hack, 3rd in his Working, 4th Station Mount (from 38 entries!!) and 5th overall highpoint of the show. He was 3rd in the state for the year. He has been High Point of the day at ASH Branch shows and has won huge station hack and pleasure classes in open age groups as a 3yo. Kelleigh has managed to overcome her show nerves to achieve this success with Player. We wish them well with their trek to the National ASH Show in Tamworth in May 2011 and look forward to hearing about his first foals. |

![]() Chalani Jarrah competed at his first One Day Event at Grand Cru Horse Trials (April 2011) for 2nd place at Introductory level. This was from 35 horses. Rider Tyson Zoontjens says Jarrah is one of the most confident, boldest horses he's jumped in a long time, especially considering the limited jumping Jarrah has done in recent years. Owner Eva Rhodes says everyone comments on what a lovely horse he is with such lovely paces and how good his rhythm is. Congratulations, we're sure there will be more eventing stories about Jarrah to come! |
5 April 2011 Facebook We now have a Facebook page you can become a fan of. |
![]() Chalani Thistle competed at the Lockington Horse Trials on the 26th Feb 2011 for 8th place. Here's what owner/rider Anne Parson's has to say: "We competed in Introductory A level as we only started eventing at pony club grade 4 level last year. Thistle went clear in the show jumping with no time faults and clear in cross country, but we were one minute slower than optimum time. If we had been at optimum time we would have come 3rd overall out of 28 competitors but we came 8th which was brilliant anyway for us two old grey mares." Chalani Triton was placed 5th at the Reynella Horse Trials in the Preliminary section with Duncan Crichton on the 20th March 2011. Triton even has his own facebook page. Congratulations to you both. |
![]() Mt Pleasant Ag Show Chalani Skylark competed at her 2nd show for 1st Led ASH Filly under 3 years and Reserve Champion Led Junior to Chalani Flinders (owned by Belinda Battersby). ![]() Film Crew Connections to Chalani Australian Stock Horses got to be film stars for a day! FEI TV, a UK film crew contacted Chalani to do an interview with Jeanette Gower about Australian Stock Horses, while they were in Adelaide (they were also conducting filming for Adelaide 3DE promotions). Chari-lee Hoad and Chalani Apollo demonstrated their whip cracking and flying change prowess, Chalani Nightdance showed off his liberty skills, (along with owner Paula Garrard's newly learnt ability to perform them) while Chalani Trivia and Kim Ide showed the ridden skills of a younger version of Apollo. The programme appears in many languages over the world to approximately 400 million viewers. What a great promotion for ASH worldwide! We will provide details about when the TV show is to be released. See the 'behind the scenes' Photo Gallery. |
![]() Chalani Jive - Show Results Jive has been competing successfully in the open hack ring during February and March, in Show Hunter and Hack classes. She was Reserve Champion Show Hunter over 14hh at Mannum Ag show (accruing 2 x 1sts in hack classes in the morning ring and 2 x Show Hunter wins). She competed at the Show Hack Council Rising Star Hack Show under interstate judges, for 3rd placings in the Newcomer Show Hunter over 15hh and Novice Show Hunter over 15hh (10 horses). She has received many favourable comments from judges and competitors alike, who no doubt haven't judged a pinto in the open hack ring very often!! Jive is now qualified to enter the Show Hunter classes at Adelaide Royal. |

Congratulations to her owner Felicity Chafer. Chalani Playwright was the winner of the Ridden ASH, 3 years and under and 2nd in the Working ASH, 3 years and under. Well done to Kelleigh Henzen and the connections to Playwright! A photo of Playwright appears on the Horse Deals website (2nd to last photo on the right). |
![]() "Melbourne Summer Royal was Action's first big show and she behaved herself impeccably, which made the day very enjoyable. We had a very big day out and received Champion Led ASH Mare. It was an extremely hot day with no wind and we both were feeling it by the end of the day. We were going to go in the ridden class but I scratched her, I was feeling quite hot and a little sick. Anyway our aim is to compete in all the ridden classes next year. She has an awesome trot, which the judge [Sam Davidge] commented on. She said she hasn't seen a stock horse trot like that for a while and that she seemed to float. It's even better to ride! She seemed to take it all in her stride, the noise, the spectators, everything. I am very proud of her!!! We have only done local riding club shows up until now and she has never not come home with a champion of some sort. We had a show last weekend, which was an open show and she won open led hack of the show." |
