Featured Horses:Chalani Auster & Chalani Winston and Cathy Beer. Chalani Auster (Aussie) is a brown 3yo by Splashdance from Chalani Aurora. Chalani Winston is a grey 10yo by Chalani Mystic from Mylor Miss (he is full brother to Chalani Laura. Cathy has the following to say about her Chalani horses: "I own two Chalani Horses having originally bought Chalani Winston 9.5 years ago after previously owning a Rannock gelding. He is now 10 yrs old. I have learnt alot about the value of a good temperament and only wanted to ride horses such as this. I knew Winston would have a nice temperament and to this day he has been a lovely horse to own, train and compete on. My husband has even learnt to ride on him. Winston has competed in Dressage since a young horse and has had good results in Prelim/Novice level. I am now schooling him at Medium level and hope to take him out soon to compete at Elementary and Medium. He is a dream to teach as he always learns quickly and doesn't have any bad behaviours. He has a very trainable brain. On this track I decided to buy another one as I wanted another the same. I bought Chalani Auster in 2007 and have been again extremely happy with his trainable brain. I have broken him in as a 2 year old and now as a 3 year old is going extremely well having just won Champion Led Junior and Reserve Champion Ridden ASH at Murray Bridge Central Branch ASH Show on October 19th 2008. Judges comments were that he was very soft and forward. Just what is wanted for a Dressage horse. I have found that Chalani Horses have helped me increase my knowledge and skills at training because of their kind temperaments and athleticism. I would have no hesitation in recommending to anyone to buy a Chalani Horse and have done this in the past. My instructor Mandy Maiden has the same advice to anyone who is looking to buy a horse as she also knows how lovely these horses are to train. She is constantly amazed at how sensible these horses are when faced with things that other horses would find too much to cope with. She is absolutely over the moon with both of mine and would be more than happy to tell anyone about their temperament but also mentions their body, as in being able to perform movements. I had a lesson with her the other day on Auster and she was amazed as we were starting some more advanced movements than usual for a 3 year old. He just loves it and does it all easily. He's like a ballerina. Winston has come ahead amazingly as well. Needless to say, I am extremely happy as well. I would be more than happy to speak to anyone with questions or show my horses to anyone who wanted further info about Chalani Horses." |

![]() Chalani Donegal Chalani Donegal has sold to Fiona Waddy, an ex-South Australian resident, now in Victoria. Fiona bought Donegal sight unseen from the details provided by Jeanette Gower and his website photo, trusting his breeding to produce the horse she wanted to ride and her children to ride. Donegal left Chalani as an unbroken rising 2yo on the 1st July 2008 at 10.30pm. He loaded on the Horse Transport truck in the dark without hesitation, after being led by novice horse person Andy Ide, down a 400m long driveway away from other horses. Below is a transcription of an answer machine message that Fiona left. "Jeanette – the horse [Chalani Donegal] arrived about 10.30 last night, and at 9.30 the next morning I went out there to Uncle Chris’s to take a look at him, and when I arrived, Uncle Chris was very quietly riding a lovely young horse around the arena, just walking him… And then a canter along the full side, and then walking again. Shortly he came over to the fence, and as he got off, I asked “Has the horse arrived?” He said “This is it! I don’t think you’ve gone wrong buying this horse, he has the temperament!!!!” Donegal just stood there relaxed while I took a good look at him, all the while shuffling up to sniff us. Uncle Chris had asked the float man if he had had any trouble bringing him over, and the reply was ‘mate, he didn’t put a foot wrong the whole way’. Jeanette, he has the most extraordinary shoulder movement; he just glides out from the elbow, with elevation and impulsion. We are absolutely thrilled with him, and Jack and Marni are going to have so much fun with him. Uncle Chris has had a great deal of experience breaking in horses all over the world, particularly in Japan and the US, and he is so quiet and laid back with them, and confident. He will just do a few things with him [Donegal] this week and then put him out till Spring. Jeanette, thanks so much for giving us this opportunity – it is not just about us buying this horse, we are reconnecting with his history, the horses in his pedigree that I knew years ago, and reconnecting with our friendship. Now it’s all the more exciting because my kids are going to grow up with Donegal, as I grew up with so many of the horses in his pedigree. He will be a family horse for us, something really special. He is everything we were wanting. We are just so thrilled." |

Chalani Thistle and Anne Parsons. Chalani Thistle was purchased from Chalani as a yearling by Emily Walter. She was competed lightly in ASH competition for good results including 1st 3yo Futurity and Reserve Champion led at Adelaide Royal Show. She also won the First Season ASH SA Central Branch High Point Award. After a number of years out in the paddock, Thistle started to be ridden by Anne Parsons until Thistle became available to buy. Anne has battled various injuries to be out riding and is a relatively new recruit to ASH Challenges and showing. Together she and Thistle have chalked up some good results, including:

Chalani Chance and Annie Hill. Chance and Annie live on a station 90kms North of Mitchell, 65kms west of Injune and 180kms N-West of Roma in Queensland. Early 2007 "I'm delighted to tell you that Chance is going really well - quite a little stock horse now; she follows the cattle well; lays her ears back and loves the chase! She's an exceptionally good 'doer' - which is lucky considering the seasons of late. I look forward to her having a foal in the next year or two." Jan 2008 "We are having the best season here for many, many years - it just looks fantastic with water and green grass in abundance; fat cattle and healthy calves - a welcome change after years of drought. Chance did 2 weeks of mustering in Dec., and then we had to stop because of the rain. She is the most amazing 'doer' - she has acquired the nickname of 'Fatty' - she only has to look at the grass and gets fat! She is presently locked up in the yards on a 'Jenny Craig' diet! She'll get another weeks mustering next week. I intend to put her to our stallion 'ASHA Warrior' in September. Chance has certainly learnt a lot about cattle since I've had her (3 years) - and knows what she has to do - although I wouldn't say she is a complete 'natural', she has definitely picked it up. I look forward to crossing her with our stallion, who is extremely 'cowy'." |

2 January 2008 Sam Yates and Chalani Elegance "Just thought I would drop you a line and let you see some recent photos of Elle. She is going really well and has matured both mentally and physically; in the last 6 months particularly. I have been having lessons most weekends which is great and although we have our moments we are progressing. Elle is such a willing horse and never does anything deliberately wrong. She always tries hard to please and do the right thing, it's just sometimes it takes us both a bit of time to get our heads around things. We often go for long rides either just the two of us or sometimes the kids come on their ponies and John and Tim on the motorbike with the dog. Elle always behaves well. I am looking forward to having a go at some competitions in the not too distant future, EI permitting, to see how we go." ![]() ![]() |
