Dec 2013 Chalani Sunstream has had a few rides at home, after his breaking in, back in Autumn. He has been a pleasure to ride, although it is a juggling act to look after twins, ride more than one horse and complete the daily horse related chores such as feeding. Chalani Trivia has been entered for the Fleurieu Campdraft at the end of January. We completed a Pete Comiskey cattle school at Lucindale in early December, which was an excellent training and learning opportunity. We have 3 mares confirmed in foal for 2014. If you are interested in any of the potential foals, please email us with an expression of interest. We allow first opportunity to buy foals to those that have expressed interest, before openly advertising any we are not retaining in the stud. Nov 2013 - ASH SA Central Branch Show We had a great local branch show at Murray Bridge, taking Chalani Trivia in the ASH classes and Ashton on a leased pony, Cinders, in the topsy classes. Our first show since Adelaide Royal in March. Chalani Trivia won Champion Senior Led ASH, Champion Ridden ASH hack and Champion Working ASH. She topped this off with Supreme Led and Supreme Ridden, winning 2 lovely rugs. Ashton won the best presented and the obstacle course and really enjoyed receiving rainbow coloured ribbons. |
2013 Foals Chalani Aurora produced a lovely chestnut filly to Chalani Sunstream. We've named her Chalani Athena. Mossroses Galica had a quality black going grey colt by Chalani Nightdance, named Chalani Alabaster. Chalani Jive had a brown colt (now gelded) by Splashdance, who we are impressed with for her first foal, named Chalani Bolero. Chalani Clover had a buckskin colt by Chalani Sunstream. Named Chalani Tussock, he arrived unexpectly 3 weeks early, with no signs Clover was getting ready to foal early. Caralta Paris produced a lovely type of chestnut filly with 4 socks and a blaze by Arakoola Tradition. This filly will be retained by the stud. We have taken deposits on Bolero and Athena and Alabaster and Tussock are pictured on our for sale page. |
July 2013 - Twins On 27th July, Jason and Xander Ide arrived. They are non-identical twin boys and brothers to Ashton (3yo). |
July 2013 - Splashdance Sold! Our black stallion Splashdance has been sold to Jack Sim of QLD and will live on an outback station. Jack plans to breed Splash over his ASH mares to breed working horses. Jack has also purchased Chalani Hamlet (by Splashdance x Chalani Giselle). Splash will be leaving in December 2013, making this stud season the last opportunity for mares owners in South Australia to utilise him. We plan to collect some frozen semen from Splash before he leaves. We will be retaining several fillies that are either by Splash or by his son Chalani Nightdance. |
July 2013 news update Although we have not been out showing and competing since Adelaide Royal in March, due to impending arrival of Kim's twins (due August), we have still been busy. House renovations are underway at Monarto, with extra bedrooms to accommodate the family expansion. Trees for Life trees have been planted out into paddocks, in the ongoing effort to provide better shade, shelter and windbreak to horses in the paddocks. Jeanette has been busy on facebook, since she started a group called 'Responsible Horse Breeders Network'. Jeanette also created a page dedicated to Heritage Stock Horses on facebook. Both pages have generated interest Australia wide and Internationally. We still receive excellent feedback about how horses we have sold are going. Often this information is supplemented with photos on our Chalani facebook page. Several Chalani horses or Chalani bred horses are doing well in eventing, including Hillbro Aramac (by Chalani Chaparral) who completed the Melbourne 3DE Two Star competition with his young rider. Pictures of Chalani Reveller, Chalani Elegance and Chalani Jester eventing are available for viewing on our Chalani facebook page. We presently have over 2000 fans of this page. The old Holdfast horse float has sold locally and you will see us out and about in the future with an Olympic float instead. We are very happy to have found this float in excellent second hand condition, with yards, tack box, awning and powerpoints, to enable us to stay overnight at competitions more comfortably. |
![]() On the 10th of March 2013, Chalani Sunstream was utilised by Colin Byron for a 'colt starting' clinic. Col thought Sunny an excellent type and really enjoyed working with him. He will continue to train Sunny under saddle for about a month. See photos on our Gallery page. |

![]() We've had some fantastic highs this year with show ring success at National, interstate and local competitions. Highlights were winning the 4yo and under hack class at the ASH National Show and Champion working Junior ASH at the Western Victorian Branch Show with Chalani Minerva. On the other side of things, we've had some not so great luck. Nuniong Beebie slipped her foal prior to breeding season. We lost the mare Chalani Paper Lace a few days after foaling her colt Chalani Tweed at the end of September. Fortunately Chalani Laura foaled the same night and we were able to get her to foster Tweed whilst also feeding her own foal Chalani Maitland (pictured). Another devastating loss was in November, of the beautiful 2012 filly Chalani Artemis (Chalani Chaparral x Chalani Aurora). Vet suggested an insect bite may have been the cause, coinciding with very hot weather, but we will never know for sure. We have four foals for sale, the filly Chalani Believe and 3 colts, Chalani Hamlet, Chalani Tweed and Chalani Maitland. The colt foal Chalani Tempo (Chalani Nightdance x Chalani Pivot) is already sold and he will go on to stand at stud in his new home down the track. Jeanette purchased a new mare 'Caralta Paris' who is by Riverview Snowman. She has produced a colt foal by McNamara Report and will remain in NSW until she is in foal to Arakoola Tradition. The young colt Chalani Sunstream started breeding mares this season and we eagerly await the next stud season to see what he will produce. Six mares are confirmed in foal to him, with 5 foals expected by Splashdance (this includes visiting mares). The following mares have tested in foal for Chalani: Chalani Aurora and Chalani Clover to Sunny; Chalani Jive and Chalani Giselle to Splash; Mossroses Galica to Chalani Nightdance. If you have a particular interest in any of these crosses, please put in your expression of interest to chalani@chalani.net with any gender/colour specifications. We have entered Minerva, Sunstream and Sangria for the 2013 Adelaide Royal Breeds, the first weekend in March. This will be the first Adelaide Royal Breeds show of this kind. We have had a number of our horses confirmed as being Heritage Stock Horse (HSH) with the Australian Stock Horse Society. This includes Chalani Sunstream, Chalani Aurora (and progeny), Chalani Laura (and progeny by Splashdance), Nuniong Beebie and daughter Chalani Sangria and Caralta Paris. We aim to direct our breeding along HSH lines. If you would like more news of our horses and plenty of photos (more than we can keep up with on the Chalani website), please visit our facebook page. It is open to be viewed by anyone. We wish all our family, friends and clients every success in 2013. |
